Ivaldo Fumo is an oceanographer and blue economy innovator based in Maputo, Mozambique, holding a BSc from Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. He serves as National Coordinator of ECOP Moçambique, the national node of the UN Ocean Decade’s Early Career Ocean Professionals Programme, endorsed by IOC-UNESCO.
Ivaldo is the founder of Ubuntu StoryTech, a fintech and blue economy startup developing digital financial inclusion tools for artisanal fishing communities, including a solar-integrated coolbox system designed to reduce post-harvest losses at sea through off-grid photovoltaic technology.
With field experience across Mozambique’s coastal provinces, he bridges oceanographic science with practical innovation, working directly with fishing communities to co-develop solutions addressing energy access and food security challenges.
A fellow of the International Seabed Authority and facilitator at ICTC 2025 in Lima, Ivaldo brings a deeply community-rooted perspective to solar research and Africa’s blue economy transition.
