SIRF 203 - Critical Minerals & Circular Economy Strategies for Africa

This session explores how circular economy strategies can support more resource-efficient critical minerals mining and value chains in African contexts. It focuses on promoting techniques that avoid waste generation in the first place and prioritize non-linear approaches, such as re-mining and reprocessing of waste materials. This session also covers the repurposing of post-mining lands for productive uses like renewable energy projects. The module will also briefly cover strategies to prolong the lifecycle and recycle end products derived from mineral value chains. The goal of this module is to promote a "circular" mindset to maximize resource efficiency and reduce waste in critical minerals value chains. Overall, the module promotes a practical circular mindset to reduce waste, improve resilience, and maximize value from mineral resources in Africa.
